How much do you charge?Collapse

I do not post my rates on my website because they do vary according to the nature of the program. There are many variables including travel distance, length and frequency of sessions, number of dogs, and intensity of behavior. I do, however, pride myself on being affordable. I take payments over time and I am happy to work with you.

What is your training philosophy?Expand

While my style of training does not fall into a "cookie cutter" style, it definitely falls into the category of "positive". There is no physical punishment; no jerking on the leash, no swatting or slapping, and definitely no zapping. All of my techniques rely on my understanding of the way dogs think and how they interpret our actions. All exercises are done in a very "zen like" manner, utilizing deliberate and confident motions and manners.

Do you work with families with children?Expand

Yes! Yes! Yes!
I especially enjoy working with children; in fact I encourage families to include their children in the programs. I have developed a number of GAMES for families and their dogs that are safe and fun for all ages.

Do you teach group classes?Expand

I primarily conduct my sessions in the home where the behavior is occuring. It is difficult to simulate problem behaviors outside the home, and when there are multiple dogs and families present, I find that all of the nuances that differentiate each situation cannot be addressed effectively. HOWEVER, if there is a neighborhood, or group of family members that are encountering similar issues, or have the same GOAL with their dog (such as walking politely on a leash, preparing for a Canine Good Citizen exam, or basic obedience), I would be happy to accommodate a group at a DISCOUNTED rate.

What is CPDT-KA?Expand

It stands for: Certified Pet Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed. This certification is achieved by passing a very extensive written exam that covers a number of subjects ranging from physiological knowledge of dog physiology and health concerns to behavior theories and modern application of dog psychology concepts. This certification is not required to become a professional trainer. However, it does provide a certain level of accountability, and wanted to be able to provide tangible evidence to my prospective clients that I have achieved a level of excellence and that I take my profession seriously.
